BIO
Elana Sasson is a vocalist, composer, and bandleader creating music at the intersection of Kurdish and Persian traditions, contemporary jazz, and Mediterranean folkloric influences. Her work explores identity and duality: weaving emotive modal melodies, harmonic textures, and diverse instrumentation to bridge tradition and modernity.
Shaped by years of training with master musicians from Iran and Kurdistan and studies at Berklee College of Music, Elana’s clear voice reflects a fusion of tradition and personal expression. Her music has earned praise from press like Songlines Magazine, who called her voice “an arrestingly beautiful focus” and gave the album Golestan a 4-star review. Her upcoming album, in between, will be released with PKMusik in April 2025.
Elana’s voice appears on Growing Songs, a 2024 album produced by Mahsa Vahdat, and in the 2023 Venice Biennale film Tatami. She has collaborated with renowned artists such as Matthieu Saglio, Mahsa Vahdat, and Perico Sambeat, and her performance credits include Palau de Les Arts Reina Sofia (Valencia), Yerba Buena Center for the Arts (San Francisco), and Fabrica Research Centre (Italy).
Elana holds a Master’s in Contemporary Performance from Berklee Valencia and a BA in Design Media Arts from UCLA.
