PKmusik presents Window of Hope, the upcoming debut album by saxophonist and composer Andreas Thermos. The record marks a decisive step in Thermos’s artistic path, shifting his focus from interpretation and live repertoire toward original composition and a clearly defined personal sound.
The project grew out of a long-standing collaboration with pianist George Kontrafouris, who consistently encouraged Thermos to bring this band into the studio. At the same time, Thermos felt the need to move beyond music written primarily for performance and to concentrate on compositions that could stand on their own as an album. What began as piano improvisations gradually evolved into structured pieces, arranged for a jazz sextet with three horns and rhythm section.
Although widely known as a saxophonist, Thermos’s writing is deeply shaped by his relationship with the piano. His compositions balance melodic clarity with harmonic openness, drawing from modern jazz while remaining open to classical music, traditional forms, and subtle Middle Eastern influences. The result is music that moves fluidly between introspection and motion, restraint and release.
The ensemble behind Window of Hope is built on long-standing musical and personal relationships. Having shared many stages over the years, Thermos chose these musicians not only for their sound, but for the chemistry he knew already existed between them. That familiarity allows the music to unfold organically, with arrangements that feel lived-in rather than imposed.
The album takes its title from Window of Hope, a piece composed during the quarantine period. Recorded in a single take without rehearsal, the track captured an immediate sense of connection among the musicians — a moment of clarity and collective focus that became central to the album’s identity.
Rather than working from theory or predefined systems, Thermos composes by ear and intuition. His approach favors storytelling and melodic development over formal constraints, inviting listeners into a space where different moods and responses can coexist.
With Window of Hope, Andreas Thermos introduces himself not only as a saxophonist, but as a composer with a clear voice and an open musical horizon — music shaped by connection, trust, and shared experience.
